What this AI photo editor does
Upload a photo and describe the change in plain words. The editor uses your photo as a reference and generates a new version, so you can try a new background, different lighting or another style without masks or layers.
This tool is part of HiDream AI, an independent image site at hidream.org.

Limits and costs
- Uploading a photo needs a signed-in account with a verified email.
- Each edit takes up to five images, in JPEG, PNG or WebP, up to 10 MB each. Some tiers, including HiDream Fast, use only the first image.
- HiDream Fast costs no credits. The other tiers spend the credits shown in the table for each image.
- The editor generates a new image rather than retouching pixels, so details outside your instruction can change too.
- Every prompt passes an automated moderation check, and prompts that break the rules are refused.
| Tier | Credits per image | Resolution |
|---|---|---|
| HiDream Fast | 0 | 1K |
| HiDream Pro | 1 | 1K, 2K |
| HiDream Max | 2 | 1K, 2K |
| GPT Image 2 | 2 | 1K, 2K |
hidream.org is an independent site and is not affiliated with HiDream.ai. Our image generator and photo editor do not run HiDream-I1, E1, E1.1 or O1-Image.
HiDream-E1 and E1.1 explained
HiDream-E1 and HiDream-E1.1 are open-source image editing models published by HiDream.ai and built on HiDream-I1. This editor does not run them, so to use them you install them yourself from the official release. E1.1 accepts direct instructions such as “convert the image into a Ghibli style”. E1 takes an editing instruction plus a description of the target image.
| Model | Open-sourced | Inference steps | Resolution |
|---|---|---|---|
| HiDream-E1 | April 28, 2025 | 28 | 768 × 768 |
| HiDream-E1.1 | July 16, 2025 | 28 | Dynamic, about 1 megapixel |
Running E1.1 locally
Clone the official repository and install it with the commands below. The Llama 3.1 text encoder is gated, so you must accept its license on Hugging Face first. ComfyUI's documentation recommends E1.1 over E1 and says the model needs a large amount of VRAM. HiDream.ai publishes no VRAM figure.
git clone https://github.com/HiDream-ai/HiDream-E1.git
cd HiDream-E1
pip install -r requirements.txt
pip install -U flash-attn --no-build-isolation
pip install -U git+https://github.com/huggingface/diffusers.git
python ./inference_e1_1.pyLicense
HiDream.ai releases the code and transformer weights under the MIT License. The VAE comes from FLUX.1 [schnell] (Apache 2.0), and the text encoders include T5-XXL (Apache 2.0) and Llama 3.1 (Llama 3.1 Community License), so their terms apply too.

AI photo editor FAQ
How does the AI photo editor work?
You upload a photo and write an instruction. The selected model uses both to generate a new image.
Which file types can I upload?
JPEG, PNG and WebP, up to 10 MB per image and up to five images per edit. Some tiers, including HiDream Fast, use only the first image.
Is the photo editor free?
You need a free account with a verified email to upload a photo. Editing on HiDream Fast costs no credits, and the other tiers use credits.
Can it remove a background or an object?
You can ask for it in your instruction, such as “remove the people in the background”. There is no separate masking tool, so results vary. Rewording the instruction or trying another tier can help.
What happens to the photos I upload?
They are stored with your account's files. You can review and delete them under Settings, then Files.
Does this editor run HiDream-E1.1?
No. This editor uses other third-party image models. HiDream-E1 and E1.1 are explained on this page, but you run them yourself from HiDream.ai's official releases.
